Fashion Trends The Modern Muse Predicted This Year

Since our launch in mid-July 2024, The Modern Muse has rapidly established itself as a forward-thinking authority in the dynamic world of fashion trends. What sets The Modern Muse apart from traditional forecasting agencies is not just our accuracy, but the methodology behind our predictions.

Rather than relying on transient “aesthetics” like “Mermaid-core” or other fleeting themes, we delve deeper, analyzing societal tendencies across fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. By identifying specific styles, fabrics, colors, and design elements with the highest potential for traction, our approach is both analytical and innovative. The trends we’ve spotlighted have consistently emerged on runways and in wardrobes around the globe, a testament to our ability to recognize and anticipate meaningful shifts in consumer behavior.

Let’s take a closer look at the standout trends of the year that The Modern Muse predicted, shaping the direction of modern style and redefining how trends are discovered.

Metal-Toe Heels

A personal favorite which I have been talking about for years, and finally, more and more shoes with metallic cap toes are starting to emerge… From Saint Laurent to & Other Stories to small shoe boutiques in Paris…! It’s only the beginning.

Vanity Case Bags

Inspired by classic toiletry cases, vanity case bags are characterized by their box-like structure, zip-around tops, and the nostalgic elegance of vintage luggage. With designers like Loro Piana, Marni, Ferrari, and Versace giving their modern twists to this accessory, this style is poised to take over the fashion world. And it’s emerging FAST.

I’m starting to see these styles at Saint Laurent, Balmain, Louboutin, Celine, Lancaster, and even Charles & Keith in just a couple of weeks!

Cropped Fur Jackets

It was a pretty obvious one! Remember in Early January 2024 there was a brief TikTok obsession with “the Mob Wife Aesthetic”?

Here it is! More wearable, more streetwear, and pretty Mob!

These jackets are absolutely everywhere this winter.

Silk Trousers

This emerged after a year-long obsession with denim: oversize jeans, wide-leg jeans, low-rise jeans, all types of jeans… Personally, I like pieces that are more elevated and effortless. Silk, tailored trousers are it.

And during the summer I’ve seen it on the runways of Armani, Lemaire and Ralph Lauren.

A-Line Maxi Skirts

This was a personal favorite, as I was craving more volume, drama and femininity from fashion. The kind of drama that we see in Maxi A-line skirts. And slowly but surely, this silhouette is starting to emerge, and we saw it at Helsa, Zara, Roberto Cavalli, Lily Silk and more…

Suede Reneissance

This fabric took over the fashion world by a brown, suede storm!

Bags, shoes, jackets, pants, skirts, accessories, suede was on everything. However the problem with that was how fleeting this trend was. Suede is a luxurious fabric, which requires good care and attention for it to last. With this trend being so popular, lots of faux-suede fabrics were released, and it’s safe to say - they won’t last too long. So all the people who suddenly purchased a whole lot of faux-suade for the season, will probably move on from this fabric very quickly!

Denim Vests

This was a short-lived trend this summer, with matching denim outfits being highly popular. Call it a 90s revival. Styled as standalone tops or layered over lightweight shirts, these wardrobe staples are rugged yet refined. With nods from labels like Khaite, Isabel Marant, and Ralph Lauren, the denim vest is transitioning from nostalgic throwback to a contemporary wardrobe essential.

Contrast Swimwear

This was THE style this summer. Very spot on the “quiet luxury” trend. Rightly so, this colourway is timeless, elegant, and universally flattering!

Spiral Heels

Amina Muaddi, Gianvito Rossi, and Loewe are among the powerhouses breathing life into this statement shoe. I’ve noticed these pop up from luxury labels to accessible brands, quickly solidifying their spot as the must-have footwear for fashion enthusiasts who aren’t afraid to make a bold statement.

Neckerchief

Neckerchiefs—subtle, chic, and oh-so-transformative. Worn snugly around the neck or tied jauntily over a shirt, they give any outfit a French-girl edge. Think Hermès squares styled like your favorite influencers at Acne Studios and Gucci. I’ve spotted them everywhere recently—whether worn over casual button-downs or paired with outerwear—and they’re proving to be this season’s most versatile accent.

Contrast Collars

Sharp, sophisticated, and endlessly versatile—contrast collar shirts are redefining professional polish. With crisp white collars paired against jewel-toned or patterned bodies, this style channels the iconic ‘80s banker aesthetic with a 2024 twist. Brands like Thom Browne, Victoria Beckham, and Sezane are leading the charge, giving these tailored classics a playful edge.
