The Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week has wrapped up, leaving us with an array of breathtaking moments, artistic mastery, and, of course, a few avant-garde surprises. This season, designers pushed the boundaries of craftsmanship, blending traditional couture techniques with bold, modern interpretations. From sculptural silhouettes to delicate embroidery, the collections presented a vision of fashion that is both timeless and forward-thinking.

Let’s dive into the highlights of the season, featuring some of the most talked-about collections from Schiaparelli, Armani Privé, Gaurav Gupta, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Dior.

Schiaparelli: A Dance Between Darkness and Light

Daniel Roseberry once again delivered a show-stopping collection for Schiaparelli, blending fantasy with meticulous craftsmanship. This season, his designs were inspired by the contrast between darkness and light—a reflection of the chaotic yet hopeful state of the world. Golden embroidery, exaggerated silhouettes, and intricate beadwork were key elements, giving each look an almost otherworldly quality.

While I did not love the overly exaggerated hip-bone silhouettes (which most of the time were merely unflattering on the models), the fabrics, embroidery and stunning silhouettes are classic Schiaparelli. I personally prefer this collection over last year!

Jean Paul Gaultier: Nautical Gothic Fantasy

Ludovic de Saint Sernin's collection for Jean Paul Gaultier embraced a nautical gothic theme, featuring shipwreck-inspired designs. The collection included ship wheel-inspired dresses and structured corsets, blending nautical elements with gothic romance.

I personally didn’t love the first half of the collection, which felt more Ludovic less Jean Paul. However the second part was elegant, edgy and sensual… amazing work.

Armani Privé: Celebrating Two Decades of Elegance

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Armani Privé took a deeply poetic approach to couture this season. The collection paid tribute to the enduring allure of elegance, with fluid tailoring, shimmering fabrics, and romantic embellishments. Roses, a recurring motif, adorned gowns in delicate embroidery and three-dimensional appliqués. Soft pastels, flowing chiffon, and dazzling metallics evoked a dreamlike sophistication, reminding us why Armani Privé remains the epitome of refined couture.

I loved the reflective, metallic-looking fabrics, the metal-toe shoes, and pleated textures… Absolutely beautiful.

Dior: Victorian Whimsy

Maria Grazia Chiuri’s latest collection for Dior was a whimsical exploration of Victorian aesthetics fused with gothic romance. The show transported us into a dark fairytale, where feathered capes, lace-trimmed tailcoats, and intricately embroidered corsets reigned supreme.

While I have not been loving Dior in the past few years, I did enjoy some elements of this collection, especially the delicate embroideries, layering, tulle and corsetry.

Gaurav Gupta: Personal Storytelling

Gaurav Gupta’s show was an emotional experience, blending high fashion with deeply personal storytelling. The collection explored themes of resilience, transformation, and hope. One of the most powerful moments was when Gupta’s partner, who survived a tragic fire, walked the runway wearing a sculptural gown symbolizing rebirth and healing. The collection featured fluid draping, celestial embroidery, and striking metallics, all coming together to create a deeply moving tribute to survival and beauty.

Final Thoughts:

This season's Haute Couture Fashion Week was a rich tapestry of narratives, each collection offering a unique perspective on the interplay between fashion and the human experience.
